English Teacher

Since 2001, I have had various roles working with young people. My first role as a volunteer within my church, was to lead and set up a Drama group. This experience inspired me to continue a career with young people.

My non-teaching roles have involved, working as a Learning Support Assistant, After School Club Supervisor, Behaviour Manager, Head of Year (non-teaching role) and Co-op School Governor. These opportunities inspired me to develop further within this field as a teacher.

I have had over 10 years teaching experience in an inner London secondary schools and I have held my QTS since 2018.

I have taught English language and English Literature up to GCSE and I also teach GCSE Media Studies and Drama. I also have a Masters in Special Educational Needs. This has helped me provide the support, learning skills and confidence needed for young people struggling with learning as a result of a learning need.

From a very young age, I discovered that working with young people and helping them fulfill their full potential is something I thrived upon. Throughout my employment history I have worked extensively with young people in different learning environments. From mainstream schools and alternative provision school. These experiences have provided me with invaluable insight to supporting young people during their secondary years. I enjoyed being a Head of year, supporting a large cohort from years 7 to 11. Understanding the journeys each year brings and seeing the achievements of learners throughout the process.

My role as a teacher is to ensure that all students are accessing the learning and making good progress. Whilst, providing an environment where learning is fun and thought provoking.

My role as a middle leader has shown me that every young person needs a champion, someone they can relate to. It is important for black children to see black leadership. My first experience was when my mother enrolled me into a Pan African Saturday School. I was able to flourish and be confident within my learning environment. I believe I have a good understanding of the needs of young people and especially those within my own race.

I am based in North London and I am happy to tutor within the boroughs of Islington, Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Hackney, Enfield and Tower Hamlets.
