Our Summer Curriculum
Year 1 in September | |

English Skills | Children will sequence sentences to form short narratives. Retrieval skills. |
Maths Topics | Children will sort, count and represent objects. They will count, read and write forwards and backwards (0-10). They will compare numbers and symbols. Our teachers will introduce the concept of parts and wholes. |
Year 2 in September | |

English Skills | Children will be writing about real events. Retrieval skills. |
Maths Topics | During lessons, children will count forwards and backwards within 20, 50 and then 100. Children will use part-whole models to represent 10s and 1s they will familiarise themselves with a place value chart. Finally children will move on to multiplication. |
Year 3 in September | |

English Skills | Children will extend a range of sentences with more than one clause, by using a wide range of conjunctions. Retrieval and inference skills. |
Maths Topics | During lessons children will be taught how to represent numbers to 100. They will find 1, 10 and 100 more or less than a given number. They will compare numbers and objects to 1000. They will order numbers and count in 50s. |
Year 4 in September | |

English Skills | During lessons the children will write from memory simple sentences, dictated by the teacher, that include words and punctuation taught within lessons. Retrieval and inference skills. |
Maths Topics | Our teacher will help your child represent numbers to 1000, round to the nearest 10 and 100, count in 1000s and work out 1000 more and 1000 less of a given number. Children will also practice partitioning numbers. |
Year 5 in September | |

English Skills | Children will describe settings, characters and atmosphere. Retrieval and inference skills. |
Maths Topics | Children will familiarise themselves with numbers to 100,000. They will round numbers within 100,000 to the nearest 10 and 100. Children will add 4-digit numbers-one exchange and subtract to 4-digit numbers-one exchange. |
Year 6 in September | |

English Skills | Children will write narratives considering how authors have developed characters and settings in what pupils have read or listened to. Retrieval and inference skills. |
Maths Topics | Within Year 6 lessons, children will recap place value to ensure they are successful with their later number work. They will add and subtract whole numbers with more than 4-digits and multiply and divide 4-digit numbers by 1-digit. |
