During lessons, children will count forwards and backwards within 20, 50 and then 100. Children will use part-whole models to represent 10s and 1s they will familiarise themselves with a place value chart. Finally children will move on to multiplication.

During lessons children will be taught how to represent numbers to 100. They will find 1, 10 and 100 more or less than a given number. They will compare numbers and objects to 1000. They will order numbers and count in 50s.

English Skills

During lessons the children will write from memory simple sentences, dictated by the teacher, that include words and punctuation taught within lessons. Retrieval and inference skills.

Maths Topics

Our teacher will help your child represent numbers to 1000, round to the nearest 10 and 100, count in 1000s and work out 1000 more and 1000 less of a given number. Children will also practice partitioning numbers.

Children will familiarise themselves with numbers to 100,000. They will round numbers within 100,000 to the nearest 10 and 100. Children will add 4-digit numbers-one exchange and subtract to 4-digit numbers-one exchange.

English Skills

Children will write narratives considering how authors have developed characters and settings in what pupils have read or listened to. Retrieval and inference skills.

Maths Topics

Within Year 6 lessons, children will recap place value to ensure they are successful with their later number work. They will add and subtract whole numbers with more than 4-digits and multiply and divide 4-digit numbers by 1-digit.
